Fitness Coach at Blake Street House

What you'll do

Fitness Coaches lead, instruct, and motivate individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercise (exercises for the heart and blood system), strength training, and stretching. They work with people of all ages and skill levels.  Must be available to work nights and weekends, as needed.  This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Compensation: Pay is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate how to carry out various exercises and routines.
  • Watch members do exercises and show or tell them correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness.
  • Give alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill.
  • Monitor members’ progress and adapt programs as needed.
  • Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment.
  • Give members information or resources about nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues.
  • Give emergency first aid if needed.
  • Monitor a team of freelance-contractors and ensure they are performing to the level of quality expected.
  • Ensure the gym equipment stays organized and tidy through the day.
  • Track member’s fitness and make recommendations on how to improve their health.
  • Ensure that only members on non-members who have purchased a wellness pass are using the gym.
  • Make recommendations to management of what equipment should be purchased or replaced, as well as make maintenance requests for existing equipment if necessary.
  • When requested, train a team of freelancers or other fitness coaches on how to deliver services to BlakeSt standards.
  • Conduct both personal training sessions and group fitness sessions. When not in sessions, monitor the gym.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • 2-3 years of Certified Personal Trainer experience.
  • Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • Critical thinking skill - able to use logic and reasoning to find solutions to various challenges.
  • Excellent multitasking skills; strong organizational ability, time management and detail orientation.
  • Adhere to Arkansas State Board of Health rules and other regulatory and licensure requirements depending on the discipline.

What Will Make Us Really Love You

  • Advanced fitness certifications:  Precision Nutrition, CSCS, and/or Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Exercise Science, Dietetics or Nutritional Science.
  • Previous experience as a personal trainer preferred.
  • Experience with Book4Time or other scheduling software preferred.
